100 Years of History
Since 1911, four generations have successfully headed the GADOUA bakery to provide Quebecers with a wide array of breads, bagels and other fresh products.
From its humble beginnings to its dazzling reputation today, the company owes its success to the quality of its products, its employees’ sense of belonging and to its outstanding customer service. Let’s look back at GADOUA bakery over the years and at the four generations that have played an active role in its success!
Wilfrid Gadoua purchases the bakery where he works in Napierville: this marks the beginning of a long family tradition!
Jean-A. Gadoua, son of Wilfrid, takes over the bakery and in turn passes on his passion for good bread to his wife and sons. In the 1950s, the bakery acquires a slicer and a wrapper to offer the people of Napierville a still nonexistent product: sliced bread! This innovation marks the beginning of the diversified line of GADOUA breads. When Jean-A. died in the 1960s, his wife Thérèse took over the bakery for the next 10 years.
Marcel and Robert Gadoua (sons of Thérèse and Jean-A) take over the family business and continue to diversify the range of GADOUA products offered.
Pascal, Philippe, Jean and Marc take over the reins and move forward with several acquisitions, making the company Québec’s third largest bakery. In 1991, Napierville’s production centre underwent a substantial upgrade and by the end of the 1990s, the business was the first in the industry to promote its products on radio and television. Who doesn’t remember those ads featuring the famous Lise Dion?
The Weston group acquires GADOUA bakery, leading to a very promising future for the brand in the Canadian market.
